NSBS financial mentors empower our clients to get control of their money, set goals, and achieve long-term sustainable change. Our expert mentors have the tools, resources, skills, and commitment to service all your money management needs: from budget planning assistance to serious debt solution services, total money management peace of mind, and specialist financial interventions.

Yes, absolutely. All mentor sessions are confidential, private, and tailored to your needs.

NSBS mentors will improve your financial confidence and capability and provide you with the skills and knowledge so that you can make better financial decisions. Mentors provide a variety of tools to help you. They can:

  • Set budgets and achievable savings plans.
  • Negotiate with creditors on your behalf to reduce your debt or restructure payments.
  • Consolidate your debt and provide financial specialist intervention services such as Debt Repayment Order, Insolvency Procedure, No Asset Procedure and Bankruptcy, and Kiwisaver Hardship Applications.
  • Improve your financial wellbeing and increase your cashflow and long-term savings.
  • Reduce any financial stress you may have, and improve your resilience to money matters so that you can cope with unexpected financial shocks and issues.

Clients are counselled through some of their most vulnerable economic crises. Mentors help take the stress out of debt and money management to create happier lives and a more sustainable environment for daily living. First, we start by carrying out an initial assessment. Then we devise a financial plan of action and set achievable goals. We follow this by building a strengths-based financial capability and resilience plan and deliver any services you need from budgeting, debt solving and creditor negotiation, total money management, or financial specialist interventions.

Our mentoring sessions are free for clients because they are subsidised by the Ministry of Social Development and through other funding channels and partnerships that NSBS has established. Corporates and companies who undertake our Workplace Wellness programme will be expected to pay a fee, and other strategic partnerships that utilise our mentoring services will also incur costs. A payment may also apply for some individuals who take up the all-inclusive, labour-intensive and ongoing total money management service.

Clients can visit our offices in Takapuna and meet one-on-one with a mentor. Or they can work with a mentor via Zoom-call, phone or email. We also offer sessions at various Citizens Advice Bureaus around Auckland free of charge.

This will depend on your money situation and what you require to fix it. Some clients may need a simple budget and only require 1 or 2 mentor sessions to put them on track. Others may have more complicated needs and require debt solutions services and need more sessions. We are here to listen to whatever your issues are, and we can provide a full service financial capability programme to meet your money needs.

Absolutely. Our BFC-Plus Seniors programme is designed to be a total money management support service to help seniors and vulnerable people manage their day-to-day money matters and pay their bills for them. We provide peace of mind and the freedom of knowing that your finances are being taken care of, while also teaching you good financial habits and providing money knowledge and security as your skill and confidence grows.
